Founded in 1903, DIXIEGRAPHICS is a large photoengraver
serving the entire United States. We chemically deep etch both
zinc and magnesium plates that are used for architectural signage,
award/dedication plaques, fire/emergency response signage, product
identification nameplates, and printing plates.
Our products are manufactured and delivered from a modern 60,000
square foot facility in Nashville, Tennessee. We maintain a complete
waste treatment facility for handling all heavy metals, acids,
and hazardous waste materials. We have been cited for pretreatment
excellence in the operation of our waste treatment facility by
the Tennessee Water Environment Association and the Nashville
Metropolitan Water Services Department.
We offer complete in-house design services, electronic file storage,
and full-time internet access using our T-1 line. We also have

Environmentally Friendly
Zinc (Zn) is a very environmentally friendly metal that occurs
naturally and abundantly in the earth. It is mined throughout
the world and mainly used for coating iron and steel products
to make them rust and corrosion resistant. It is also used in
brass alloys, die-castings, and chemicals. Zinc ore is smelted
and refined into liquid zinc, which is then cooled and rolled
into flat sheets of engraver's quality zinc.
During the chemical photoengraving process at DIXIEGRAPHICS we remove the non-image
areas of the zinc by using a solution of nitric acid, oil, and
water. The waste water goes to our complete, on site, waste treatment
facility where we filter out the zinc oxide residue and neutralize
the acidic waste water. The solid residue can then go to the
local landfill and the liquid residue can go into the city sewer
system. All scrap pieces of zinc and saw shavings are sold back
to a scrap vendor for recycling. Zinc is completely recyclable
and presently about 36% of the world's consumption is supplied
by recycled zinc.
DIXIEGRAPHICS
maintains permits for its wastewater treatment facility as well
as the emissions ventilated from its manufacturing facility.
All permits are reviewed annually by the Nashville Metropolitan
Health Department and Water and Sewerage Department.
