PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 ALLOWANCES A. Refer to Section 01210 - Cash Allowances for the Cash Allowance Sum applicable to this Section of Work. B. 1.2 DEFINITIONS A. Signs for Permanent Rooms: Signs for men's and women's rest rooms, numbered rooms and exits. B. Directional and Informational Signs: Wall-mounted signs that provide direction to or information about functional spaces. THEY STATE ADA REQUIREMENTS. 1.3 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - PERMANENT ROOMS A. Tactile and Braille Characters: Raised 1/32 inch accompanied
by Grade B. Typestyles: Upper-case and sans serif. C. Character Height: Minimum 5/8 inch high, maximum 2 inches;
all D. Pictograms (Symbols): Equivalent written description shall
be placed directly below symbol. Written description shall not
be within symbol's background field. Border dimension of symbol's
background field shall be minimum 6 inches high.
1.4 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - DIRECTIONAL AND INFORMATIONAL SIGNS - WALL MOUNTED A. Typestyles: Width-to-height ratio of between 3:5 and 1:1; stroke width-to-height of between 1:5 and 1:10. B. Character Height: Sized to viewing distance. ANSI Table 703.4.2.4 Minimum 5/8 inches high. C. Finish and Contrast: Characters and background shall be eggshell, matte or other non-glare finish. Characters shall adequately contrast with background.

1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. For each sign form and graphic image process indicated furnish products of a single manufacturer.
1.8 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Comply with applicable provisions of American National Standard Specifications for Making Buildings and Facilities Accessible To and Usable by Physically Handicapped People, ANSI A117.1, latest edition. INCLUDE REFERENCE TO NORTH CAROLINA CODE WHERE APPROPRIATE, LIKE TENNESSEE. B. Comply with applicable provisions of [Handicapped Section of the North Carolina State Building Code and] the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver, store and handle products in this Section; follow Section 01600. B. Package separately or in like groups of names, labeled as to names enclosed. Include installation template, hardware or adhesive specified and installation instructions. C. Store adhesive tape at ambient room temperatures.
1.10 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. Dixie Graphics, Nashville, TN 37211, 615-832-7000 PICK SHEEN AND EITHER SOLID METAL OR LAMINATE DESIGN. MAGNESIUM SIGNS ARE NOT PERMITTED BECAUSE THEY ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DISCOLORATION AND CORROSION OVER TIME. FOR INTERIOR SIGNS SELECT FROM MATTE, SEMIGLOSS, OR GLOSS FINISH. FOR EXTERIOR SIGNS SELECT ONLY EXTERIOR GLOSS FINISH. BRASS, COPPER, AND BRONZE ELECTROPLATED SIGNS ARE FOR INTERIOR USE ONLY AS THEY MAY TARNISH OUTSIDE. 2.2 MATERIALS GENERAL A.General: Chemically deep-etched zinc with raised lettering and Grade II Braille. AND ABOVE THICKNESSES. SILVERTONE IS MANUFACTURER'S NATURAL ZINC
FINISH MOST COMMONLY USED. WITH SILVERTONE AND THE METALLIC TINT
FINISHES [BRASSTONE, BRONZETONE, COPPERTONE] ALSO SELECT EITHER

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Verify that surfaces are ready to receive work. B. Beginning of installation means installer accepts existing surfaces.
3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install signs according to manufacturer's instructions. Install signs after surfaces are painted and finished, in locations indicated. B. Mounting Location: Mount signs to comply with ANSI 703.2.8 mounting location. C. Mounting Height: Mount signs to comply with ANSI 703.4.5 mounting height. Mounting heights shall comply with ANSI TABLE 703.4.2.4, based on the size of the characters on the sign. D. Locate signs on surfaces, level. Clean and polish. IF AN ALLOWANCE IS NOT USED, THEN INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Architectural Floor Plans for rooms, such as rest room identification,
code required signs and telephone identification signs. Do not
